Ruth Napaljarri Stewart was born around Coniston. Although Ruth did her schooling at Yuendumu, she and her family would frequently travel between Yuendumu, Napperby Creek and Mt Dennison.

Ruth spent time doing domestic work at Yuendumu before finding employment as a health worker at Yuendumu Clinic. She also worked for a period for Yuendumu Council.

Ruth has painted with Warlukurlangu Artists since 1980’s, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre in Yuendumu. She paints many different themes and stories that were passed down by her father. Ruth is the younger sister of the successful artist and senior elder at Yuendumu, Paddy Japalarri Stewart. Her traditiona country is in the Mount Allan region of the Northern Territory.
