Djwaida Nadjongorle was born in the bush of Arnhemland. As a young man he moved to Oenpelli where he attended the Mission School of the day.
On leaving school Djwaida worked on the Oenpelli cattle station as a stockman for some years.
Upon finishing work as a stockman he moved to an outstation on the Gumadeer River where he was taught to paint by his father.
The artwork of Djwaida is unusual in that his images are usually very fluent in their movement, with mimi spirits and Aboriginal images painted with long arms and legs. On many occasions he used four colours for his cross hatching, rather than three which is the more common.
Djwaida had travelled extensively throughout Australia in relation to his art features prominently in most major collections throughout Australia and many overseas.
Djwaida Nadjongorle is a past winner of the National Aboriginal Art Awards.
